Donabate Sea Scouts Celebrate Forty Years

The Chief Scout Christy McCann was on hand to help Donabate Sea Scouts
celebrate their fortieth anniversary with a Gala Dinner in the Waterside Hotel in
Donabate.

From little Acorns do mighty Oaks grow and so is the Story of the Donabate Scout
Group. From its humble beginnings at in the once tranquil village doing their
Boating a Corballis the Group now boasts a fine Scout Den in the Village built in
the 1980’s and now do their boating on the Broadmeadow estuary at Kilcrea.
Both the Group Leader Brian Conway and the Chief Scout Christy McCann addressed the assembled diners and recalled the early beginnings of the Group founded in 1975 by the late John and Joan McKevitt. They also recalled many other members of the Group who gave stalwart service through the years including Celsus Brennan and Ann Bradshaw.

Over ninety people attended the Gala Dinner on the night which included many current and former members of the Scout Group as well as parents and friends and the gathering were entertained by the twenty three members of the Swing Kings Jazz band. Dancing went on late into the night and a good time was had by all.
