Twenty Three Chief Scouts Awards in Malahide

Chief Scout on hand in Malahide to Present Awards
Twenty Three Cubs and Scouts from across the three Malahide Cub Packs were presented with their Chief Scouts Award by the Chief Scout Christy McCann at a special convened Awards ceremony in Malahide Scout Den recently.
The Chef Scouts Award is the cumulation of over twelve months work for the Scouts and their leaders where their Scouting skills were pushed to new limits. The tasks undertaken were Sailing and Canoeing, Cooking, Backwoods, Tracking and Camping as well as a Twenty Kilometre Hike and a Twenty Kilometre Cycle.
Speaking at the presentation Cub Scout Leader Mark Barry praised the Cubs for the manner and enthusiasm with which they undertook the various tasks.
Each Cub Scout was presented with their Chief Scouts award badge and in Malahide Tradition they were presented with a special Group Neckerchief which has a Gold Border denoting that they are the holder of the prestigious “ Chief Scouts Award”.
Also in attendance were three Sea Scouts who also received their Chief Scouts Award which also incorporated the Bronze Gaisce Award. Praising the Scouts, the Chief Scout noted that at Scout level the Scouts very much have to take the initiative themselves with the Support of their Leaders and their troop and thus why the award is recognised with the bronze Gaisce award (The President’s Award).
When all the presentations were over the Chief Scout had one surprise left in his pocket as he called on Cub Scout Leader Anna Hickey to present her with her forty years’ Service Award as a Leader in Scouting. Anna who has been a Leader with Malahide for over twenty five years started her Scouting in 44th Dublin Whitehall only moving her allegiance’s when she moved to live in Malahide.
Parents Grandparents brothers and sisters were all present on the special night and with tea and refreshments for all it was a Scouting night ta the Cub Scouts will remember for a long time to come.
