The Provincial Youth Forum took place in Kilcully Scout Campsite on last weekend. The forum sees a gathering of County Representatives from all over the Southern Province (Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary). The day began with a welcome from the out going youth reps and registration. Following registration there where a number of ice breakers which helps to relax the atmosphere and the attendees quickly get to mix and get to know one another.  This helped to insure that the youth reps got to know each other in advance of the forum.

After the Icebreakers the Youth Reps broke up into their sections (Scouts, Venture Scouts and Rover Scouts). The first part of the forum saw the youth reps discuss issues that are currently facing their various sections. The youth reps put together motions that will be taken to the National Youth Forum which takes place in January.

Following a break for lunch the youth reps returned to their forums and helped to complete a list of survey questions from National Youth Programme Team. These questions will help the National Youth Programme team pin point issues facing Scouting Ireland’s One Programme and provides them with a tool to help over come these challenges.

As the day drew to a close the elections for this years Provincial Youth Reps took place.  Each candidate made a 2 minute speech followed by voting, the competition was fierce particularly in the Venture Scout Section. It was perhaps quite similar with the lobbying and canvassing that goes on in political circles.

The Provincial Youth Programme Coordinator Una O’Regan from Passage West closed the Youth Forum with a short closing ceremony and the incoming Provincial Youth Reps where presented with their neckerchiefs. The newly elected Provincial Youth Reps will go on to represent the Province at the National Youth Forum early in the new year.
